                           Paleo
                                           (ca.10,000- 7,500B.C.) 

    Paleoindians are the earliest Native American who populated Indiana during the end of the last Ice Age.  The climate was cooler than today.  They were small bands of nomadic hunter-gatherers.  They hunted large game such as deer and caribou and some other megafauna which are now extinct today.  
    Projectile points are of lanceolate in shape and often have grinding on the basil edges.  Material for the most part is of good quality chert. Common point types that are found in Indiana include; Clovis, Hi-Lo, cumberland.  Their tool kit also includes Scrapers, Square Knives and Long Blades.
